Fittingly titled second and final album, The Day The Music Died (A Don Mclean homage this ain't) from the recently disbanded Ohio five-piece, Beneath The Sky proves a musical potential that may never now be realised.
Forget, whether this lot are metalcore, deathcore or simply a mob with a penchant for zombie flicks - given away by the cartoon gore on the cover of this offering (And alleged Dawn of The Dead lyrical references), the riffs that brew into a raging storm, much double drum pedal hammerings and complimentary undertaker growls make this album a menacing, but stimulating listen.
Highlights include, I'll Call This My Own and Misery With A Delicate Voice, then there are the elements within the tracks that haunt with Killswitch Engage and Trivium shrills. But there's the low points that taint the melodic mastery beyond reason, namely the 'woahs' and revisiting emo singing that interrupts the zombie opera with whines before it has had time to unfold into full gory -glory before your ears. As the curtains come down when the last track arrives, it raises a question that may now remain unanswered, The Pursuit Of.of what indeed?
