Having been undecided whether their previous singles 'Fascination' and '10,000 Nights' were continuations of Scandinavia's delightful pop tradition or just really, really annoying, 'Boyfriend' poses no such dilemmas. It's really, really annoying, before I even listened to this CD it was already in my head thanks to countless plays on Radio 1.
It's horribly '80s, with it's sugary synths, harmonies wearing shoulder pads and a cowbell so flimsy it might as well be one of Madonna's cone bras. It might sometimes be cringe worthy, but at least Madonna tries to sound modern and relevant even if it doesn't always work. And when singer Stine Bramsen repeats, "just because I'm crazy in love", it makes me hanker for Beyonce's masterpiece. Yes, it's catchy, but so are diseases. Blimey, how 'NME' was that put down?
