With an album dedicated to his friends world-wide, a logo featuring a hand-grenade and general artwork involving knuckledusters, pistols, bloodstains and bullets, I'd better not say anything too awful - otherwise I'll soon be swimming with the fishes. But as the voice of Agnostic Front, Vinny Stigma didn't fanny about, so I don't think he'd appreciate his critics ramming him with faint praise. So I won't.
All the usual themes are here - New York. Friends. Drinking. Friends. Tattoos. Friends. A slightly bolshy attitude towards authority. Friends. Blood. Friends. This album is to be played loudly before the big match, with plenty of shouty terrace choruses and fight-for-your-right guitars. Vocally it's part Rollins, part Lemmy, with a production (from erstwhile Monster Magnet Phil Caivano) as pristine-hardcore as possible. There is variation, though - Hole In My Heart howls a love song written in barbed wire and bricks. Still Crucified is a punked-out Rage track, the stand-out on the album. Closing time brings four drinking songs the Pogues could have turned down as being unsubtle, though, with Young Till I Die frantically waving its black flag before eventually playing into a drunk acoustic clap-along like something from Spongebob. Yes, Spongebob. I'd better stop there before someone smells disrespect.
