August Burns Red - Messengers

August Burns Red exploded onto the metalcore scene with their brilliant debut Thrill Seeker towards the end of 2005. It was a collection of songs that hinted at a massive amount of potential within the 5 members. Luckily for them, the potential they displayed since and with the recording of Messengers has been reached and far surpassed anyone's expectations, especially mine. Melodic and ridiculously technical ABR should have sunk with the rest of the Christian Metalcore uprising, the only reason they didn't is because this record is proof that they had the spark and creativity needed.

Track by track, Messengers is a righteous infliction of jugular severance. From the opening guitar lines there isn't one point throughout the eleven tracks where I felt the urge to turn the CD off. Instead, repeat prescriptions of bedroom mosh were placed and I took each dose without complaint. If you ever imagined what would happen if Parkway Drive listened to more Swedish Metal instead of American Hardcore, then you should most definitely check out this.
