My God this is bleak, bleak and beautiful if I had to pick two words to describe it. If you can imagine Nick Cave, The Coral and The Mavricks teaming up to play funerals then you're pretty close with imagining what this band sounds like. They’re not Goth though so lets get that clear now.
To be honest it’s an odd record to listen to, the best description I can give would be surf pop stuck through a blender marked with the brand name ’mourn’. It’s sorrowful but not depressing, despite sounding emotionally heavy for the most part it’s not a casual record, more something to sit back and listen to late night whilst the midnight oil burns. That doesn’t mean it’s a slow and wistful record, it's fairly upbeat for the most part and underpinned with solid bass rhythms whilst steel guitars and brass ride over the top. Throw in a fairly warped cover of ’I Can’t Help Myself’ and you’ve got a pretty strong release. On the other hand I will say this, I did find it hard to get into initially, you may find you have to spend a day listening to get into it.
