Like Rats From A Sinking Ship - SXY SXY GSW EP

A year-old debut release from the Trondheim trio, this shows some of the 'throw everything into a barrel, kick it into a fjord, then record it' school of record production. The first two tracks shred, shout and scratch with a vicious mix of the Locust and the Hives. There is also a semi-rap section towards the end of Smash the Crystal Larynx!, which you may wish to run away from. Vulture Culture pecks off the piano, noise and impenetrably silly lyrics of Radiohead; in this case, "flap your wings / won't you flap your wings" repeated ad nauseum, first gently, then in the now-customary hellion howl. Thanks for that.

And thanks also for the final track, which pretty much saves the whole record from being a bit of a pretentious mess. You Can't Hug Your Children With Nuclear Arms should be the leading track on a single rather than the last track on an EP - maybe the band thought it a touch too 'commercial'. If the progress of the tracks here reflect the progress the band have been making generally, then they should be well on the way to forming their own genre - Prog Punk. Perhaps you'd like to start running now?
