The Sweet Confusion are named after some lyrics by Dr John in his song 'Such A Night'. Their music is pure and unadulterated Rock and Roll. This is the type of Rock and Roll that everyone should like and should hear more of, especially in these times when artists feel that they have to mash up various genres to become more credible. Due to them sticking to a classic genre which isn't broken so why try fixing it, I have more respect for this band as they seem to enjoy playing this music and from listening to the album are excellent playing it.
For a debut album, it's great to get 12 tracks, but to also take the listener back to the days of the 3 minute song. Even though the album isn't Punk, it reminds me so much of The Clash's first album. This is an album full of very strong well played songs, which come in at just over 30 minutes. This is a group that should have more exposure. The vocals remind me of a husky Bluetones sound, but with the backing of a great band, they are so suited to this sound.
Like all good bands, various types of rock and roll are played on the album. There are the full blown crank it up to 11 type of songs such as 'Radio' and the albums first track 'Los Angeles'. There are also the slower songs which still fit in perfectly with the whole sound like 'The Big Sur'.
Previous singles 'Dead Mans Shoes', 'Built To Last' and 'Your Kiss' are included on the album. My favourite tracks on the album are 'Dead Mans Shoes' and 'Radio' these both rock and want me to turn up the volume, which is always a good thing! One of my other favourite tracks has some of the best guitar work on the album which is 'Light Out, Disco', the playing is amazing and the whole tune works so well.
With an ever growing support in the big smoke, I really hope this London four piece start to tour this album, because I bet that if this album is anything to go by, they will be captivating and provide an excellent show.
This album won't disappoint and I would highly recommend you go their website, where the first 3 singles are free to download, and to then buy the album.
A must.
