Papier Tigre. I note this particularly because I didn't actually notice it about the band, specifically. I thought their sound was very thin and quiet, and they were definitely lacking something, but on a cursory listen I wasn't sure what. Well on repeated listens (and a read of the press release) I can say with some confidence that one of the things they are missing is a bassist.

One of the guitars more or less plays basslines most of the time, but the whole thing is very weak in general. The quiet bits are more space than note, and what should be crescendos are just. Meh. It's a bit of a shame really, as there are some nice Fugazi style grooves interwoven with more sassy Blood Brothers moments, but the whole thing just leaves me rather nonplussed.
