Stephen Patrick Morrissey is back, and yet again it’s good to have him back. The tenth album from The Smiths frontman, ’Years of Refusal’ sees the iconic legend team up with producer, Jerry Finn (You Are The Quarry, Ringleader Of The Tormentors) to offer his most intimate offering yet. Brace yourself; Moz is coming back better than ever.

The opening track, ’Something is Squeezing my Skull’ opens up a fresh and exciting album which continues to better itself as you play on. His latest single, ’I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris’ is perfectly placed four songs in to anchor the album with a song that fans will at least be familiar with. Yet it does not stop there, a familiar appearance of ’All You Need Is Me’ provides a bookend to his latest single. In comparison to his previous releases it appears that he has come back with even more thrust and energy than before.

It is clear that Morrissey’s style has changed very little since he began his solo career, but this is most certainly a good aspect. ’Years of Refusal’ presents classic Morrissey lyrics and songs that show his formidable talent. There is still all of the bitterness yet lyrical beauty left in his songs and hopefully this will not be his last release. After listening to this album it is hard not to feel excited about what comes next in the story of such a great artist. An old record - yes, but most definitely not a broken one. And even better, the special edition album comes with a DVD so you can enjoy the man himself even more.
