The folk-punk fusion band from Brighton usually have a political prod with their output, and with the recent US election what better time is there to make fun of the economic crash, over spending and war of attrition in Iraq than by releasing a track called ’Burn America Burn’.
Quite catchy, and also with a bridge reminiscent of one or two hooks from 80s pop, mostly this is a track that seems to be focusing on high school shootings. It’s a surprisingly jolly tune, all things considered and has all the capacity to have you dancing along whilst the morbid subject matter blasts from the speakers, a bit like when Sting got to number one singing about stalking his ex-wife. The B-Side is a softer, more somber affair about a drunken wife beater in denial after his marriage breaks down. The arrangement and construction are slow and mellow, actually becoming quite beautiful in full face of the social aspect being explored. It’s another example of the bands ability to make a dark subject pretty.
In all it’s a great A-Side and well worth picking up if you get chance but not really strong enough to be a must have considering the LP is already out. Unless of course you’re a diehard Levellers fan.
