Originally envisioned as a Christmas Album, 'And Winter Came' evolved to be more than that. What with the single 'Trains and Winter Rains' having a more seasonal tone but sitting comfortably alongside the more festive tracks.
This album has all the hallmarks of what we have come to expect from Enya, in her use of particular instruments, vocal style and languages such as Latin and Gaelic. But it also has a few tracks that differ from the norm, for example 'White is in the Winter Night' is a sprightly festive song; 'One Toy Soldier' again a festive song is slightly weird and 'My! My! Time Flies!' could have been done by Queen, complete with its own Brian May-esque solo!
Another odd thing was that when a couple of the songs started I thought they were going to be 'Silent Night' such as the song 'Journey of the Angels', but they just sounded similar. But as a final twist the last song 'Oiche Chiuin' IS 'Silent Night' but in Gaelic.
This is a very beautiful piece of music and the production is oh so slick, as is of course needed for the sound Enya has made famous for the last twenty years.
