"You're never too old for rock'n'roll." The concept of a project that involves a bunch of old people from a nursing home in the Midlands all getting together and belting out a few rock classics is certainly an odd one. I can almost see the pitch in the production office now.
But it works. And if you saw the film you would know there were some stellar moments that were capable of melting the hearts of viewers. Stand out moments included the sombre 'Nothing compares to you' and the awe inspiring 'Fix You'.
The thing about projects like this is it doesn't matter if the singers are any good; it is evoking an emotional response in the listener which is what music is all about. It is about wishing every grandparent was like this and whether or not your gramps bounced around the kitchen to James Brown or not, you can't help but smile and remember those that are important to you.
That said, I can't help but feel this is probably a more visual experience than a listening one.
