Rob Himself - Armchair Historian

Armchair Historian is quite a DIY project, recorded in an attic and released by Rob Himself (with help from drummer and producer Adam Pollard). The album contains some dark, upbeat folk in a similar vein to Frank Turner. There's some class material here - including 'Struck off the A-List' and 'April Fools'.

The EP draws all sorts of influences, and alongside the usual bitter, melancholy singer songwriter usualness, there are some up beat tracks that re tell some interesting parts of history, such as 'Ode to David Starkey' and 'This Was Logan's Run'.

Whilst there are traces of the familiar singer songwriter EP here, there's enough here for it to hold its own and make Rob Himself a promising artist to watch out for. Despite the occasional timing issue, and some dubious mixing effects (particular the OTT use of reverb), this is a great little CD that deserves a bit of a listen!!
