Review - Helix - A Heavy Mental Christmas

Helix - A Heavy Mental Christmas

7 out of 10

Though I've never heard of them before now, Helix have been around for a long time and with this release I thought they were going senile. But with 'A Heavy Mental Christmas' there is some charm in these rock n' roll reworking of classic Christmas tracks.

Sounding like Status Quo in places and The Darkness and AC/DC in others, but stripped back to the point of sounding a bit too low budget rather than the raw bluesy approach I thin they wanted.

Though I think they maybe missed the point with Silent Night, this album is a lot of fun to listen to and even rejuvenates some of the songs they've reworked. Also, there might just be some tongue in cheekiness about it too.
