Shinedown - The Sound Of Madness

After a storming performance at this year's Download Festival, Jacksonville Florida's Shinedown have released their long awaited third album The Sound of Madness. With it being two years in production the wait it seems is finally over. This album certainly doesn't hold back by ripping into major single Devour that stomps and swaggers all over the stereo. Frontman Brent Smith has a distinct twang to his raw, throaty vocals that carry the pummelling metals riffs over especially into the title track of the album.

Shinedown endeavours to be able to produce solid hard rock tunes but yet able to go the more mellow areas of their musical repertoire. This can be seen with new single the soaring Second Chance and the Pearl Jam-influenced The Crow And The Butterfly. This is post-grunge influenced metal but done well.
