Beginning daintily with an ode to "small" hometown, Oslo, Little Hands Of Asphalt aka Sjur Lyseid celebrate daily encounters amid a melodic setting on Spit Back At The Rain. Armed with an acoustic guitar, the Norwegian singer narrates his anecdotes and creates a sense of intimacy using whispering vocals that weave in and out of his collection of folk songs, a style reminiscent of Conor Oberst and Death Cab For Cutie. Standing out as a contender, the woeful sounds of Love Songs (for Young Writers With Unrealised Potential) make for a quiet anthem. Unassuming, subtle and unobtrusive, these songs work their magic by overpowering without detection.
