Shrewsbury four-piece Dials have been gigging around the midlands since early 2008, and this EP (out in August) is a neat little showcase of the charged up post-punk melodies and canny lyrics that have got people intrigued on webzines and in crowds across the region, even if it doesn't set the world alight.

Opener 'There Are Worse Things' takes the post-punk revival sound of fellow midlanders Editors and adds Minus The Bear's most shimmering qualities and some (almost literal) introspection - "staring at the insides of my eyes". 'House With The Red Door' and 'Gloria Knudson' are more unusual. The Placebo-style angst is familiar, but the staccato drum rhythms, occasional math-rock guitar solos and post-rock mini-moments definitely aren't from Brian Molko's lot.

The semi-acoustic title track has an endearing melancholy ("It's no way to be if you're only happy when you're asleep") but ultimately; 'Fix This Imbalance' sounds like a band that could benefit from coming out of their comfort zone.
