In the inevitable chaos and excitement surrounding the release of AC/DC's new album later this month, it would seem that an ex-Meat Loaf guitarist sneaking into the studio and making off with some out-takes has been missed. That's the only explanation I can come up with for this track, which sounds for the entire world like something Angus et.al. discarded as being 'a bit too simple'. The fact is, it makes Nickleback sound like the Smiths in comparison, from its I Love Rock n' Roll start, through its 'are you ready to rumble?' lyrics to its 'Strike - while the iron is hot' chorus. The Rundgren even does a passable Brian Johnson, so if times get tight at Rundgren's Hawaiian hideaway, he could slot right into a Butlins house band without any trouble. From the cover, he even looks the part. For someone so anxious to project himself as bleeding-edge, tech-savvy, twenty-first century cyber-artiste (even calling himself TR-I, for Prince's sake), Todd has, unfortunately, left the actual music back in 1976. And not in a good way.

Strike is a wild rock and roll song performed by one of rock's best guitarists. The single is energetic, crazy and exciting. I give it 10/10. It makes AC/DC's new single 'Rock and Roll Train' sound lame. Please get your ears cleaned out soon.
