Austrian born DJ Enne is steadily becoming somewhat of a Dance veteran with releases on Compost, Permanent Vacation and his latest piece, "Pleasant Surprise" is indicative of his experience and his growing reputation: a tape deck experiment that demands attention.

The track begins with a funky drum fill wrapped in whispering electric piano, soon joined by atmospheric moans and a pounding bass line, steadily building in momentum. Almost instantly it is evocative of early Piano House and Hi-NRG that you could have expected to hear booming out of Hacienda in the late 80's. Metropolitan, funky, sleazy, it's clean retro fun and the prefect sound track for a midnight stroll through the downtown of a florescent metropolis; getting lost amongst the lights the people, under the night sky and on the dance floor. Meanwhile the synth solo later on gives the track an almost Cool Jazz vibe, similar to the classic 'Get Carter' theme. The track's textures aren't deep yet they don't need to be as it seems more akin to zone out music than anything else.

The John Selway (half of NYC duo Selway & Smith) remix is a different story, certainly upping the tempo, creating a more frantic techno influenced piece. Meanwhile the 'Unexpected Version' puts a more chilled groove into the proceedings making it even more laid back, an aftershock of the original piece.
