Less is definitely more with this debut release from North London urban smoulderer Jyager. You may find the grime-y dub bass an oppressive drone. You may gag on the standard hip-hop nasties of chest-beating self-belief ("I'm a soldier.a four-star general." Really.) and hatred of the police ("I hate CID.fuck pigs, that pork ain't edible." See what they've done, there?) but I am afraid you would be denying yourself that most rare of musical gems - a decent British rap.
Alright, there's a smoky smear of Eminem about the place but there's none of Mr. Mathers' whiny American self-importance. Rather we have some of his darkly humourous punch (see the bit about going to a sperm bank rather than selling out) and gripping attention to the groove. Didn't Wanna Have To Do It rambles in a very cool way about how contradictory blokes are when it comes to the 'C'-word. That's 'commitment', for the four-letter minds out there, who may wish to know that the 'DIRTY' version comes courtesy of a swearing midget towards the end. It's rather like wandering into an episode of Twin Peaks on helium. He's young, he's good-looking, he's talented. Catch Jyager now before he goes all Craig David on your arse.
