Converge have a lot to answer for. Ever since they came around, bands have been trying to emulate that sound that was perfected on their seminal record Jane Doe. They & The Children are no exception, but they also add something else to the mix. A dirty, d-beat influenced guitar tone that would leave the guys from Tragedy either shaking with excitement, or crapping themselves out of sheer terror. There are parts of this album that will have you wanting to smash everything in sight. There are parts of this album that will no doubt have you scratching your head wondering how the hell they managed to get from one musical place to another, but over all this album is experimental hardcore done properly. Maybe not at it's best, but when you're playing music in this kind of style, it is more about an artistic statement than crafting little gems of musical brilliance.
