The hip-hop scene is one of the most fierce and egotistical in the business, a quick check of blogs and you get such a difference of opinion over someone like the Game that it's impossible in many ways to give a balanced review which would settle all parties. Coming from my view point, being white and into indie, I like the only sort of hip-hop we're meant to, 'backpack' like MF Doom et al, therefore the commercial bitchings of 50-Cent and the Game don't hold particular interest. There is a simple way to do this, if you like the Game then you'll like his big beat and aggressive rapping. However, sitting on the other side of the fence is me. 'Big Dreams' suffers from the same problems that have bugged the Game from the outset; firstly not to be confused with his previous release 'Dreams', he still seems to spend most of his time name-dropping. Fair enough all rappers do it, and while it certainly isn't at its worst here, it shows no sign of abating. Whether he will seriously rethink his process for the upcoming album 'L.A.X.' is dubious, The Game is for people who think DMX was a pioneer of hip-hop and I am certainly not one of them.
