I can hardly believe it's been 3 years since Weezer's 'Make Believe' and the tormentingly catchy 'Beverly Hills. More surprising however is that I have now been a Weezer fan for a good 15 years (Shit), so I always get a bit giddy at the prospect of 'new Weezer', and their latest offering 'Pork And Beans' hasn't disappointed me. The guitars have has the dull low knawing (Almost cheap sounding) distorted tones, reminiscent of, well Weezer. Again something that works for them. Lyrically it's typically geeky, somewhat self-referential and, if honestly not great, but Weezer were never a band I turned to in order to be challenged. As a bottom line there is nothing earth shattering about this song whatsoever, and that's kind of why I like it. It's the same band that I got into all those years ago. This single is safe. It's catchy. It's within the bands comfort zone, but more importantly within that of their fans. Essentially it's a hit record and will therefore get trashed by scenester press who claim the only Weezer album worth its weight is 'Pinkerton'. But if you like your Weezer short, catchy and full of hooks (Like I like my men), then you'll enjoy this. Listen: www.myspace.com/weezer
