It looks like Carl Barat is turning into a Noel Gallagher-style elder statesman of indie and, like Sir Noel, picks bands that are so obviously influenced by him to fill the support slots on his tours. The Rivers don't sound like The Libertines though, but Dirty Pretty Things, while on the B-side, 'Fold For You', The Kooks can be accused of the same narcissistic crime because The Rivers have supported them on tour and this song is textbook Brits School indie. Just try listening to 'She Gives It Around' without thinking of 'Deadwood' or 'Bang Bang, You're Dead'. It's the same in its sea shanty leanings, dodgy characters and Mod revivalism. Then on the B-side it's all about heart-felt yearning and it's semi-acoustic vibes head for the seaside. Probably for T4 On The Beach. Listen: www.myspace.com/therivers
