7 out of 10

The last Millimetre album, 'Obsidian', was a magnificent record; creepy, epic, genuinely experimental to the extent that it was sometimes difficult to listen to let alone enjoy, like Radiohead, Mogwai and Massive Attack rolled into one angsty package. It got 9/10 on this site, so it's with some excitement that Terence J. McGaughey releases new material, and it's a departure from 'Obsidian' if 'Missing Haitch' is anything to go by.

Gone are the soundscapes, pretensions to post-rock and warped metallic noises that hurt your eardrums, instead it seems as if McGaughey has unleashed his inner funk, a funk unlike anyone else, but there's something to sway your hips to nonetheless. Think of the fuzzed up noise rockers from LA, Brooklyn and Oxford (Parts & Labor, Times New Viking, No Age, Fuck Buttons) playing Hot Chip and the bluesy bar rock at the same time, with a break down to clunk glasses with Beck Hansen, and your some way there. But this is just one song, predicting what the new album will sound lime would be a fool's job.
