Mattafix, friends of Matt Damon, politically aware, blenders of almost every type of music from Rock to Soul and perhaps most importantly, (If Wikipedia is to be believed) one hit wonders. While I'd hardly accuse the band of such a thing after managing to reach No.15 once upon a time in the summer of 2005, it is a telling tale. Far from being inactive, every attempt upon the British public seems to have been rebuffed and this single taken from a 'released everywhere but Britain' album looks like it might do little to change the picture. The slight delay in releasing may well be down to struggling to find someone to release the record, but personally I prefer to be a little more cynical and say that the summery vibes and the coinciding of an album release into Britain's tiny window frame of sunlight, is perhaps more than a coincident. It's hard to exactly pin point where the band have gone wrong, but I might open that touring with Jem and Joss Stone for promotion was perhaps not the best start. After that rather ridiculously long introduction to Matttafix, what of the actual single? Pleasant in its own R&B way, the backing of almost glitch electronica is more irritating than quirky. While the combination of reggae and soulful vocals might have provided something a little less cheesy than Shaggy, the interesting choice to make it sound like they have Royksopp being dragged through a hedge backwards on some sort of a loop is a curious one. Of course what I mean by interesting is, well an expletive of your own choice will suffice. While they have noble intentions with the world, I certainly don't see the Wikipedia article being edited for a while. Listen: www.myspace.com/mattafix
