It is possible for songs to be funny, not just in a clever Alex Turner/Mike Skinner/Roots Manuva kind of way, but in a deliberately 'comedy' way too. Just look at the soundtrack to 'South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut', Frank Turner's friend Beans On Toast and 'Cheryl Tweedy' and 'Not Big' by Lily Allen. Essex's Charlie Brooker and porno mag-approved Kunt And The Gang are not funny. He's just crude, making bad jokes about MySpace, pubic hair and 'Countdown' co-hosts, fitting as many rude words into a song as possible (Wank! Quim! What WILL he say next!). Calling them adolescent would be an insult to most teenagers in the country. Take opener 'Perverts On The Internet', which features a female backing singer doing a bad Lily Allen impression and has the same bassline as Mika's 'Love Today'. "I asked to see a picture of her finger in her twat" is probably the worst line of the bunch, and there's nowhere near enough tongue in cheek to justify it. Using toy instruments has been popular by all sorts of bands for a few years now, and hardly anyone can pull it off while still looking good (Gruff Rhys is the only one that comes to mind immediately), and it just adds to K&TG's horrible 'wackiness'. This is a waste of time for anyone who cares about music or, for that matter, comedy. It's one of the worst records I've ever heard, and you can have that for your next kerazy press release if you want. Listen: www.myspace.com/kuntandthegang
