In from the wilderness, and I no longer know what's cool anymore so what better place to start than Julian Velard a barefooted musical misfit, intent on transferring the musical escapism of cinema and twinkling ivories of a slightly less camp Elton John into something blissful. While his guitar free music puts him alongside the likes Jaime Cullam and Ben Folds, he lacks the simplicity of the latter. If anything the closest comparison that springs to mind is Everclear, essentially for composition and style. Rather than pigeon hole Velard and his rather alternative CV (Parisian bin man and a kindergarten gym teacher amongst other things, just because you didn't ask), 'Jimmy Dean & Steve McQueen' is a delightful summer romp that will no doubt capture the imagination of many. He's like the Jack Johnson of the piano, and while I realise yet again I've done my best to put him into a genre, and that Johnson probably plays the piano as well, you get what I mean (Hopefully).
