PK - Casting Shadows

The simply named PK don't just have songs called "Saturday" or "The Girl" or something equally innocuous, no instead they opt for titles such as "Rodessia" which I can only assume is a different spelling of Rhodesia, the unrecognised state which is today known as Zimbabwe, or Palimpsest which is a manuscript page from a school or book that has been scraped off and used again.

"Casing Shadows" is the new EP from the Californian 5-piece and combines the vocals of Dashboard Confessional with the music of Circa Survive to create a melodic soundscape for their songs. "See You At The Party, Richter!" named after a quote from Arnold Swarzenegger in Total Recall is a squirming song that sees the rhythm section of the band mix it up no end in a really good show of musicianship. None of the tracks are particularly poppy and as such I can't see PK breaking out from the underground, but that's not to say they aren't a good band.

Who can't love a band that names a track after a quote in Star Wars? "TK-421 Why Aren't You At Your Post?" is a direct quote from the film as TK-421 was the designation of a clone stormtrooper that was stationed aboard the first Death Star. My only criticism would be that the vocals are slightly too similar to Chris Carrabba. A solid EP that shows potential for the future, they just need to cut a few more variations into their sound and tinkle with the vocals to give it that extra edge they need. A nice introduction to PK however.
