Worriedaboutsatan have made something incredibly British, actually I'll go so far as to say that what they have created is inherently the most British music I have heard in recent years. This generation to which I belong has possible never had a better national anthem than I Am A Crooked Man; it is enrapturing, encompassing and irresistible. Thom Yorke's vocals would certainly not go amiss here. Actually I'm going to go and force someone into mashing tracks off The Eraser with anything off Arrivals.
Embracing the drone in much the same way as Prefuse 73; slow and washing but with a minimalist techno vibe, like Café Del Mar meeting Richie Hawtin in a back alley behind a Godspeed show. This is the sort of music that journalists will try and vomit up a new genre for, so I'll jump in first with two fingers invading my throat. And the regurgitated mess - Electronepica. It's awkward to say and that is half the reason why I like it; it certainly won't catch on, unlike Worriedaboutsatan who flit from Penguin Café Orchestra style phone ringing to Postal Service bleeps and beats and then out of nowhere in slides a deep rumbling cello (possibly) all amalgamating into a very blissfully forlorn mood piece.
At times this can sound like coming down a hill after those proverbial Jack and Jill's, drifting along a river of swooping and swishing. This is beatiful (sic). Then in comes Pissing About which sounds exactly like .. Well.. Pissing about. Kind of like Battles hanging out with Animal Collective, mashing together an instrumental that starts off almost irritatingly and then somehow, through the magician-like filters of Gavin Miller and Tom Ragsdale, ends up lifting what was first annoying and turning it into a stomping, twitching electronic feast.
I'm not entirely sure how these lads have pulled this off; combining epic soundscapes with minimalist techno should really have ended up with a bore fest of colossal proportions but instead this is quite superb. Gleefully my hands rub against one another at the prospect of live dates.
