Yves Klein Blue - Draw Attention to Themselves

6 out of 10

Hailing from Brisbane, Yves Klein Blue sound about as Australian as Franz Ferdinand and may be the missing link between the Strokes and the Libertines. This debut EP shows a quite embarrassing amount of talent and variety, popping between jazz, punk and rock at the flip of a pork-pie hat. We'll overlook the brass section on Not What I Want and instead bounce ourselves stupid to Silence Is Distance and Polka (which isn't, thankfully). We'll also nod quietly to Doherty-offcut The Streetlight (included especially for us Brits, doncha know) and concentrate on the understated piano-charm of A Bookend. Easy to write off but, I fear, that would be a mistake of Great Barrier Reef proportions.
