The Veronicas - 4 Ever (Single)

3 out of 10

I know two good things called Veronica; the 1989 song by Elvis Costello and the character played by Winona Ryder in the movie 'Heathers', from the same year. Clearly 1989 was a good year for Veronicas.

Jump forward twenty years and it's safe to say 2009 isn't such a good year for Veronicas; so called "global phenomenon" The Veronicas have been a fixture on UK radio, since the release of their annoyingly repetitive single 'Untouched' earlier this summer and '4 Ever' treads very similar ground. Although the electronic edge of 'Untouched' is switched up with some chunky guitar breakdowns and the irritating stuttered, breathy vocals are replaced by equally infuriating smug, whiny vocals, both songs have the same pretentious pop rock facade, that involves more posing and eyeliner than actual attitude.

I would say the anti-climactic choruses are as bad as it gets, but the unnecessary remixes spawned from such a weak song and even weaker beats have reduced what would have been an indifferent 5 out of 10 rating, to a measly 3 out of 10.
