While some out there recently questioned the electronically lined route a certain female fronted Brooklyn outfit have recently taken, no explanations are required from Emily Haine's or the rest of the Metric crew to accompany the arrival of their fourth album, Fantasies.
Attention is commanded and granted immediately with opening plea, Help I'm Alive before the urgency calms as Emily caresses, her voice rendered to a tuneful whisper in Twilight Galaxy.
Though the Canadian quartet have been reportedly working hard all over the globe in the four years since Live It Out, the feisty edge most potent in Metric's older offerings like Monster Hospital still remains, but buried under saddening synth melodies, subtle beats and a quiet self-assurance.
'Who would you rather be, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones? asks the singer in Gimme Sympathy a hard question to answer in the time before modestly glimmering grower, Collect Call gets underway with it's echoes of 2006's Poster of A Girl.
As they wind it down with a big subject in Stadium Love, you may be surprised by the stealth appeal Fantasies has and if you let it, this offering will melt you with all the charms of a heart-warming story from a close friend. Therefore, most certainly not ideal listening material before a raucous night out on the town!
