9 out of 10
I hadn't even heard of The Cinematics when I decided to take on this review, which I am so glad I did. The reason that I reviewed this album is because I heard somewhere along the grapevine that they sounded like The Editors, which they do. I am a massive fan of The Editors, they are one of my favourite bands, and after listening to The Cinematics; they are awesome too!
I know I will have a mixed response from this and I don't know whether to put this or not. anyway I will jot down my thoughts if I'm not going to say it, its debatable, I think The Cinematics may be as good as The Editors, that shows how big of an impact this album has had on me. Like I said I had not heard of the band from Glasgow before, but after listening to 'Love and Terror', I am personally going to go out and buy their first album 'A Strange Education', as this is their second. A lot of bands usually fail to live up to their debut album, and as I have not heard it and how much I love Love and Terror it shouldn't disappoint. If it is any better than this album it would be verging on a through the roof 10 out of 10 for me. That's how good it is.
The album Love and Terror is exactly what an album should be; every song on the album has quality, from start to finish. I can't stand it when artists have way too many tracks just to make a big album, which is pretty much made up of album fillers, this album is the totally opposite. It has ten top songs, each worthy of a release, though my favourite tracks are 'All These Things', 'New Mexico', Love and Terror', 'Lips Taste Like Tears', and 'You Can Dance', and that's five out of ten, its hard to single any one out to be honest, as the album is just awesome. The two latest singles to be released from 'Love and Terror' are 'New Mexico' and 'Love and Terror', both phenomenal releases.
The guitar work on this album is second to none, every instrumental works so well with lead vocalist Scott Rinning. The Cinematics are a fantastic band, it's like all the pieces of the jigsaw are there, and this is the finished article. I can't fault this album one bit.
I definitely 100% recommend that you purchase this album, especially if you like The Editors, I can see slight Bloc Party influence going on here too, which is always good. 'Love and Terror' is released on the 28th of September 2009.
Hope you like it as much as I did. Like I said before this review I had not heard of The Cinematics, and now I'm pretty much a fan, I have already recommended this album to many of my friends.
