On a scale of bad to brilliant, The Saturdays generally hover dangerously close to brilliant; they've had a solid run of singles (excluding 'Just Can't Get Enough' obviously, although the video more than made up for the aural assault), a sold out tour and the kind of bona-fide pop star gloss that makes you want to read about them in the weekly gossip mags.
So the choice of 'Forever Is Over' as the lead single from their second album 'Wordshaker' has left me more than a little discombobulated! Yeah it's moody and prime for some fist of emotion action, with diva-in-the-making vocals from Vanessa and rock star growls from Una, not to mention all the glum pouting, door slamming and throwing-whatever-I'm-holding antics in the video, however, all that fails to outweigh the lack of a catchy chorus and minimal sing-along factor.
But fear not The Saturdays haven't lost it; 'Wordshaker' is packed full of pop gems that definitely don't disappoint, notably the killer title track, so fingers crossed it's the next single! In the meantime, check out Una Healy's solo version of 'Forever Is Over', with backing vocals from her rugby star boyfriend Ben Foden: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=152qQAPohcs.
