Scottish four-piece Anavris are a promising addition to the UK rock premier league and show the hearts on their sleeves with the recent "Eleven Eyes Of A Simple Man", which is a melting pot of most alt-rock bands from the past ten years. You will hear snatches of Fall of Troy here, Oceansize over there and a dash of.......lots more.
However many comparisons Anavris could have, it's all backed up by a band that can play well-thought post/math rock (as well as shredding solos on the brilliant "She Dances") and manage to fit a damn good chorus in there for good measure. If you like alt-rock then you could do a lot worse than checking out Anavris. But...
I'm sorry, but however good the songs maybe, Anavris have also managed to write the worst lyrics this side of Snap!'s "Rhythm is a Dancer" cancer reference.
"If I were a drug, I'd be your cocaine, you'd be my heroin.
Cocaine is much easier to get
Heroin is much to get rid of"
I don't know where to start with that.
Apart from that, support Anavris and hope they change the lyrics before the album is recorded.
