Dolores O’Riordan is back with No Baggage, her second solo album since leaving The Cranberries. And it’s really a shame that Dolores feels it is OK to set her sometimes yodelling and at other times breathless singing to what is for the majority middle of the road music. The lyrics are either overly sentimental or just plain nonsensical and the whole album appears to be aimed at the middle aged women that once sang and danced along to the vehement lyrics and music that was The Cranberries.
However the production is superb and taking out the element that the music isn’t breaking any boundaries it is all extremely well played and arranged. Plus whilst the lyrics might not be the best in the world, Dolores does know something about singalongability and how to get those lyrics stuck in your head like on such songs as current single The Journey.
