So this is who we have to blame for Paramore, Attack Attack and all that other Health & Safety Punk, is it? Well, yes and no. And so, to the fate of all 'influential' / 'essential' / blah, blah bands - the 'deluxe' reissue of the important album, advertised on MySpurt and Farcebook below big banners for a singles' web site featuring mildly-pierced teenagers. The irony is increased listening within twenty-four hours of an election, too. 'We can no longer pay the price / We’ll get organized / We will no longer believe that working for you will set us free' (Deadly Rhythm) or 'We want the airwaves back / We don’t just want airtime / We want all the time, all of the time' (Liberation Frequency). If only.

As 1990s hardcore goes it's about as good as you'll get, with some genuine jerks at the spinal column and experimental pushes into glitch, jazz, classical and folk, while Dennis Lyxzèn 'sings' through what sounds like Henry Rollins' burning cheese-grater whilst punching himself in the balls. Just don't think too much on the political message - you'll only get upset. Refused were a beacon. And we all know what happens to beacons.
