Holy Ghost Revival - Embrace The Hate (Single)

6 out of 10

According to the 'NME', Holy Ghost Revival are the 10th best band in America (They currently reside in London but are originally from Seattle). Which doesn't bode well for the rest of the bands on that list, because HGR are nothing special going off this.

'Embrace The Hate', which sounds like the title of a Bullet For My Valentine song, sees singer Conor Kiley doing his best Axl Rose impression while the rest of his band copy Guns 'N Roses cock-rock riffing, histrionic guitar solos and generally share G'NR's stadium rock shtick. It's like 'Rock Band' come to life. If you're still waiting for 'Chinese Democracy', try this.

B-side 'Angel Of Death.' is better, Kiley sounding more like David Bowie this time over some textbook mellow Americana, complete with organs, steel guitars and lyrics about the sea, saints and prostitutes. It's not bad, but the 10th best band in America? No, HGR are lower down the list. Still above Guns 'N Roses, mind.
