So, it appears the latest trend in the "urban" music scene is big synth sounds. The first majorly successful artist I can recall using them recently is Calvin Harris then Kanye started with them and now everyone is having a crack at them. Latest on the bang wagon is Gym Class Heroes.
"Cookie Jar" is the first single off Gym Class Heroes 3rd album "The Quilt" and it's probably going to be another hit. The problem with this track is that it sounds so much like every hip hop track that is coming out at the minute. It sounds massively like Kanye West and it reminds me of Lupe Fiasco as well. In fact, this song is so trend following it's even got the singing vocals of The Dream, who sounds suspiciously like Matthew Santos who is laying down vocals on pretty much everyone's tracks these days.
OK, I'll admit it. This is a really good track. It's catchy, the rhymes are amusing and innuendo laden and it's basically easy on the ear but I just can't get over the fact it sounds SO much like so many other artists. But, yes, the track is pretty sweet.
I'm pretty sure this song is about shagging around as well.
