I am always fairly sceptical of anything Vice promotes. I really don’t have anything that major against Vice, it just seems a little too "Nathan Barley" for me at times. Fucked Up were good. The Horrors had their moments. But it's still open to debate about Black Lips.
Hailing from Atlanta they pull off all the right moves and sounds for this sort of music. Garage rock is something that can’t really go wrong to be honest, but to make it stand out is something else. Lo-fi production, jangly guitars, crackly distortion, distorted vocals blatantly recorded through some really old expensive microphone; they're all here. Shame it doesn’t really add up to something better than all its parts.
While not really that bad, it's not amazing.
