I am wagering that Cult Of Luna and Isis are pretty popular in the Seven Nautical Miles house. So popular in fact that it's almost impossible to listen to the Swedish chaps without "Oceanic" or "The Beyond" popping into your head. In fact, they have COL’s Pierre Johansson doing the artwork.
If you know those two bands then you will have a pretty good idea of what SNM’s sound like. Huge, melancholy, minor key chords wash over the pristine production. Breaking away into post-rock build-ups and acoustic picking sections. Subtle keyboards add extra layers of ambience and melody. Like a lot of this sort of stuff it's the vocals that are the weakest aspect. While there is nothing wrong with their hoarse roar, with everything going on around them they can sometimes distract from the music, which is itself really good.
Despite being something that has been heard many times before, it's well played and executed with enough scope and ideas displayed to mean that something very impressive might be lurking below the surface, but It's just not obvious enough yet.
