Having suffered some rather serious set backs due to vocalist Dan Lancaster undergoing serious surgery, Proceed have not had an easy time of it. I understand, however that Dan is back to good health and what better way to celebrate than by releasing your debut album.?

'Seven Months In A Fire Blanket' was in fact supposed to be released last Easter, but for obvious reasons put back until now. The album in itself is crisp as you could imagine and clearly a labour of love. Every nano second of this record has been carefully scripted, every pause has been thought through, measured and calculated. This has to be admired.

On the other hand, Proceed aren't terribly exciting. I mean, it's all there - there's some great guitar work all over the record, ranging from power riffs reminiscent bit of Reuben to meticulous guitar harmonies that will remind some of BFMV (And others of Maiden). Very generally, Proceed play a tried and tested style of 'metal' - you get those big choruses with massive harmonies and verses that seem to state the point of the song. Their influences seep through too, which is something I really like. There are elements of Thrice, and sporadically even Glassjaw and At The Drive-In. However when it comes together it all sounds a bit Fightstar.

Proceed are very much of the moment, and I have no doubt that they will have success, especially having already established themselves along sides the Blackout, Flood Of Red, Devil Sold His Soul and Enter Shikari. Most of whom they are actually much better than. I look forward to seeing these guys live, as I feel that this is probably where they are at their best.

'Seven Months In A Fire Blanket' isn't strictly for me, but you know what - it's pretty good.
