BM Linx - Kids On Fire (Single)

8 out of 10

Following on from their previous hit "Understanding Orange", which was made famous by appearing on the promos for 2007 TV show Hidden Palms comes "Kids On Fire" a veritable electrock party. Starting out like "Cavern" by Liquid Liquid after a couple of bennies then blustering into a punkier, more party spirited MGMT or Kasabian. Imagine if you will, The Chemical Brothers clashing with the guitars of New Order while Fuck Buttons razz one off in the background and we are slowly closing in on the beep driven beats that form the sound of BM Linx.

The brainchild of Tony Diodore, who is joined by Andrew Griffiths on drums and Jonathan Murray on bass, BM Linx started life down in the underground of New York City back in 2005. Originally intended to subvert ideas and border hop genres in opposition to the typical party tracks that DJs render, the band morphed into this hulking, dark behemoth that somehow your feet can't help but tap along to and hell, why not air drum as well. I know I did. They are essentially the Darth Vader to Girl Talk's Han Solo.

As an extra treat on this single the lads have kindly included the Second Sun remix of their tune "123 Cat" which slams into your brainwaves with the force of sledgehammer through a jewellery shop window and then breaks down offering up a Mr. Oizo-a-like bass line which, although it sounds like it is straight off a Kaossillator, is ridiculously mint. Especially when the vocals that are layered over the top of it bring to mind Richard Ashcroft singing his lungs out in "Lonely Soul" by UNKLE, which is especially fitting when the beginning of the original version of "123 Cat" sounds like it has come straight off the turntables of DJ Shadow himself.

If these are signs of good things to come then breath shall be baited and ears prepped for the arrival of upcoming sophomore release "Black Entertainment".
