This is an odd game indeed. Thrust into the action almost immediately the game narrative follows the film as the main characters monkey (get it?) around a giant rock planet for no apparent reason. It would have been a good idea to establish more of the storyline from the start for those players unfamiliar with the animated movie; though the actual game play itself is quite nice, wielding a good balance of puzzle solving games and battle moments.

The trouble is, that some of the puzzle solving games are far too complicated for younger players, whilst the actual concept and game play elements of Space Chimps would struggle to win over adult gamers. The fact that the different characters have different skill sets is a nice touch though and gamers are left to decide which character will be most suitable for the task in hand.

The 11 levels don't take long to complete (for grown-ups) and I like the mini-games (especially the arcade style shooting game). There are three single player game modes - Classic, Time Attack and Survival and an unlockable multiplayer cooperative arena is a nice touch too. All in all, this isn't a bad game at all - unlike so many movie crossovers which fail so miserably - though I can't imagine it will be one for repeat gameplay... in fact I am prepared to offer a small wager that there are a lot of copies already in trade-in sections in games retailers all over the UK.
