Verse - Aggression

Having earlier discovered the joys of Bridge Nine Records it was certainly great to be reviewing the band Verse. For whom my only exposure to their material was from label samplers. From the get go this is a very good and accomplished hardcore record.

Verse refines the token aspects of hardcore into an album of sheer quality. Within their sheer velocity and anger in their music Verse certainly are more melodic then their Bridge Nine label mates.

Mixing politics and music somewhat does not always have the desired effect; it can become pretentious, preachy and unwanted. However, Verse manages to avoid these trappings. Opening with the track ’The New Fury’ demonstrates the bands political views. Lyrics such as "Perpetual war for perpetual peace, turn a blind eye to poverty while manufacturing new enemies" demonstrate the real political climate we currently share both in the UK and America.

Verse suffers for their art, with a sound like a political punch in the mouth, vocals often break but because of the honesty and urgency in his vocal screams, the message is never lost. Verse defines everything good about hardcore music in the present day and if you're new to this band/sound I implore you to purchase this album.
