I've always found that as you mature (i.e. get older) you're music taste shifts and changes. I don't know if it's an age thing or maybe a social thing but it's weird. The first band I ever got into were Korn, I used to love Korn big time when I was about 11-12 years old but now, at 24, I can't even listen to them. But it works both ways, for example, I never used to like the Foo Fighters but now, I kinda like them a little.
So, that all being said, If I'd reviewed this single 4-5 years ago I probably would have slagged it off and told you all how rubbish it is but now, in my mature years, I have to admit I kind of like it. David Gray's music has always been middle of the road, harmless & soothing which used to make me sick but now, middle of the road & harmless doesn't seem so bad. As you would expect, the track is stripped down and simple. Gentle drums, pleasant acoustic guitar & accompanying piano. "You're The World To Me" is upbeat but still easy-listening. Simply, this just sounds like a David Gray song and I think that is the best way to describe it.
It's the musical equivalent of being tucked up in bed.
