9 out of 10
Straight off the bat this band have already earned kudos points with me for naming themselves after a character in a ridiculously geeky tabletop war game. Carnifex's first release was very much just standard deathcore riffs and brutal breakdowns. With this release they seem to have taken a much more technical death metal direction whilst keeping the simple deathcore elements that made their first release an absolute mosh fest. I'm not normally a fan of this kind of stuff, but everything seems to mesh so well on this CD and the production definitely helps, as it is absolutely stunning. Whether you're new to this genre or a fan of technical metal with crushing breakdowns, this CD will appeal to both sets of fans. The only reason this is getting a lower score than a 10 is because it gets a bit too repetitive.
