A while ago I bemoaned a lesser record for being a not particularly great summer pop album. I may even have complained at the lack of any truly great indie pop albums in quite a long time. Well, "Everything Is Alive" isn't the best summer record ever (For me that honour still belongs to "Something to Write Home About" by The Get Up Kids) but it makes a pretty good shot at it.
It manages to be quirky, experimental and infectious all at the same time, without once being irritating. Perfectly crafted pop melodies spring forth from guitars and keys, with danceable, head nodding bass and drums underpinning the whole thing. Even some occasionally scarily high-pitched vocals can't put a dampener on things. There are hints of contemporaries like The Get Up Kids, Saves The Day and even The Killers, but also classic acts such as Queen and the Beach Boys. Perfect barbeque music.
